NEws & Updates 3/6/08: Mind Portrait & Peace of Cloth

Hello fellow art lover,

I’ve completed a series of paintings based on he two grand hallucinations that we habitually indulge in— memories of pasts that never occurred and conjectures about futures that never arise as imagined. Many are currently on display at Esteban Sabar Gallery in Oakland, California.

Monumental Self Portrait of the Mind

The pantalooned figures, inspired by a rugby-like game known as the Calcio Stoico that is annually played in Florence, Italy, became a self portrait of my mind as it swirls with obsessions, strategies and self-conflicts.

Peace as a Long Green Cloth

Loosely based on a southern Californian canyon retreat that my parents owned when I was a child, I’ve since developed longing for the sense of security and peace that the sound that the creek represented for me. I wanted to paint that sound as a long reaching cloth pouring from the creek bed up into the house.

Experience of a Sunrise

I sought to depict the spherical, single pointed experience that each of us has of the world in contrast to the impossibly rectangular and objective view we regularly present to one another.
