NEws & Updates 1/7/08: Head in the Clouds and Place of Honor

Hi fellow art lover,
I have finished painting the cloud ceiling for the soon to open My Amour Salon & Spa.

It took me back to my mural and decorative painting days of the mid-1990s. I’m a little better painting sky ceilings now, but I don’t miss the crick in the neck one gets from looking skyward.

Collectors Mike and Bud have hung “The Race” in a place of honor over the fireplace and I’m struck by how much better my paintings look in a home rather than a gallery.
********************
I was sick with a bad chest cold from Christmas through New Year’s Day, probably from painting in the cold of the studio/garage. The illness--and Esteban--forced me to stop my frenetic pace and to spend time considering the larger picture of why I’m here as the artist that I am.
I believe that despite my best effort to avoid it, my destiny is to pull seeming dead ends together, including
- awkward computer compositions,
- Francis Bacon’s unexplored approach that is yet to open up painting,
- the unselfconscious prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux,
- and my naïve brush strokes,
to make painting relate to our experience of the world like a canvas mirror. Another aspect of my role is to turn on other (perhaps better) artists to the untapped possibilities that painting offers us.
I’m learning how to share my art and my vision with people, and many have been so supportive.
I’m developing relationships with gallery directors. Some are sometimes taken aback by my painting approach, but Mahler said it best: my time will come.
All the best!
