Too Much?

On my final pass through the gallery, my seeking heart locked onto McCorkle's Nicolo Portrait on a Green Background. Though smaller than the other works (14" x 20"), this fauvist portrait of a young man found my center.

In this painting, McCorkle teases at convention by combining bold colors in wide and swirling brush strokes that are somehow confined within his subject's profile. Happy for this finding, I suddenly felt gratitude to Esteban for overdoing this show. For within it, I found just the right amount of "too much" for me.
